The purpose of reading is to enlighten and enhance our sensibilities. It is supposed to broaden our perspective of the world and give us a better understanding of the things we encounter in life. It is supposed to strengthen us not just monetarily, that is, by providing better job prospects but also gives us inner strength and a philosophical vision to view the journey of life as an on going journey and not to get bogged down by failures.
If you can read and think, you can very well put these thoughts on paper, and hey presto! You are a writer. Writing is the skill of putting your thoughts on paper albeit in an organized manner.
Does all this scare you? Do you feel it can’t be as easy as it sounds? Well! the truth is—it is— the online medium today has made writers of us all and I’d say things were not so easy some 10-12 years back or if you think some twenty years back, people would fill reams with well organized thoughts and sadly there were no takers. Today you just have to pick a topic and write on it and you may actually get published or even get paid for it.
So, how and where to begin or how to wet your feet is the primary concern, well its not so difficult trust me, follow these easy steps and you are on your way to becoming a writer of sorts:
1) Choose a topic that you want to write about or better still Google the word, writers or blogs, and see what people are blogging about. Read a few and see what interests you. Also see how people present their thoughts and ideas. By this time a few topics and ideas would have come in your mind too.
2) Don’t immediately start a blog, rather start writing articles and submit them in some of the article directories or look for places that pay writers for posting articles. These may be low paying initially but then you are just getting started.
3) The need for good writers today is more than ever and the online medium seems to be lapping up any kind of information you are ready to impart. Any kind of topic on which you have knowledge or expertise is a good topic to write about.
4) There are people ready to buy your articles for a price so that they can publish it on their blogs or websites to generate links or revenue.
5) E-books are another popular tool used by internet marketers. It can be sold or given as a value-added resource. You too can publish your own e-book and sell it or distribute it via e-mails or through an auto-responder.
6) You could even use the e-book as an incentive for completing a survey which would give you very useful inputs to improve your business.
7) Use your talents and skills to write your own book or articles. You could even create your own recipe book and either sell it or distribute it while educating people about your goods or services.
Today writing is no longer an esoteric pursuit for the learned and the scholarly it has become a great way to generate useful revenue.
